Wellness - it's not always about doing more but sometimes it's about doing things differently. We all have our own definition of wellness and our own routines, but here's what I've learned over the years. Don't complicate things, stop worrying about what others are doing for their wellness routine (because that's what works for them) and stop paying too much attention to 'fad diets' and 'fake news' on social media about wellness.
Define your own Wellness; define what it means to be fully alive. How are you looking after yourself, how are you staying well, is it with nourishing food, is it with sunlight, is it with dips in the ocean, is it with mindfulness, is it with exercise? You see real 'Wellness' isn't just about the food we eat, whilst it's extremely important, the air we breathe, the movement we engage in or the ability to switch off and have some down time.
Wellness is also about the relationships we have with others, the social connections, the thoughts we carry, the self-talk, the habits we keep, the books we read, the music we listen to, the travels we make, the stories we write and how well we love ourselves through it all.
People are afraid to define their own wellness these days for fear of judgement, for fear of 'getting it wrong' - but wrong in who's eyes. The thing about wellness is this; wellness is about having rituals and habits that sustain you, that uplift you, that allow you to rest, that allow you to re-set and rejuvenate. This is wellness. When you can anchor yourself in these small rituals that keep you happy and healthy without pain, without sacrificing too much, without feeling guilty or overwhelmed - this is wellness. So I invite you to pause today and write down what 'wellness' in fact means to you? How does it stack up?
How can you change it if it's not serving you? That's the key, flexibility, compassion and kindness to yourself first when it comes to wellness.
Wellness, when practiced fully, wholeheartedly and authentically by you is about honouring and nurturing your 'self'. The simple act of being grateful everyday, is too a feeling of wellness and carries with it a certain vibration that is the embodiment of a radiant heart and general wellbeing.
Have fun with defining 'Wellness' and make it work for you, keep nurturing it and change it as you go, because life is a journey and so to is our wellbeing.
